Privacy Policy

Introduction

This privacy policy describes how Wellquill (com.stuartbradley.wellquill), developed by Stuart Bradley, handles your data.

Wellquill is local-first. It requires no account, contains no advertising or tracking, and does not send your medications, schedules or health logs to the developer or any server we operate. Your data stays on your device. There is one optional network feature (a US medicine-name lookup) and your device's own backup, both described below.

Information We Collect

Wellquill does not collect any personal information about you, and has no developer-operated server.

To provide its functionality, the app stores the following on your device:

  • Medications you add (name, generic name, form, strength, colour, notes, and any doses-remaining / refill amounts you enter)
  • Dose schedules and tapering plans
  • Dose history (taken, skipped or snoozed, with times and optional notes)
  • Barcodes (GTINs) you choose to link to your medications
  • Custom forms you build and the entries you log in them — these may include health information you choose to record, such as migraine notes, blood pressure readings or mood
  • Reminder and notification preferences, and app settings
  • Whether you have purchased the one-time unlock, and when your free trial began

This is held in a local database on your device. The app itself never transmits it to the developer or any server we operate. If you have device backup enabled, your device's operating system may include a copy in your personal Google account — see Device Backups below.

Information We Do Not Collect

Wellquill does not access, collect, or process any of the following:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
  • Account credentials or sign-in data — there are no accounts
  • Location data
  • Usage analytics or behavioural tracking
  • Crash reports or diagnostic data
  • Advertising or device identifiers
  • Cookies or web tracking technologies
  • Contacts, photos, or other device data

How Your Data Is Used

Data stored locally on your device is used solely to provide app functionality:

  • Showing the doses due today and reminding you at the scheduled times
  • Tracking doses remaining and alerting you when stock is low
  • Recording and displaying your dose history and simple descriptive charts of what you have logged
  • Letting you build forms and browse, edit and chart your own entries

Your data is never used for advertising, profiling, or analytics of any kind.

Network Access (the one exception)

Wellquill works fully offline except for one optional feature. When you scan a medication barcode, or search for a US medicine by name, the app sends the barcode number (or the text you type) to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's public openFDA service (api.fda.gov) to look up a medicine name.

That request contains only the product identifier or the search text you entered. It does not include your identity, your other medications, or any of your health logs. The result is cached on your device.

openFDA is operated by the U.S. FDA and is subject to its own terms and privacy policy. If you never scan a barcode and never use the name search, Wellquill makes no network requests at all.

Purchases

Wellquill offers a single one-time "lifetime unlock" after a free trial. The purchase is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. Google handles your payment; the developer never receives your payment details. The app only learns whether the unlock is active. Google's handling of your purchase is governed by Google's privacy policy.

Data Sharing

Wellquill does not share your data with third parties.

The app contains no third-party SDKs that collect data, no advertising networks, and no analytics services.

The only ways data leaves your device are: the optional openFDA lookup described above (a product identifier or search term, never your health logs); your operating system's own backup feature (see Device Backups); and Google Play's handling of a purchase. Wellquill also includes an import/export feature that lets you save or load all your data as a JSON file — this operates entirely under your control using your device's file system and share sheet.

Device Backups

Wellquill works with Android Auto Backup. If you have device backup enabled in your system settings, Android may automatically include a snapshot of your Wellquill data — your medications, schedules, history, forms and entries, settings, and whether you have purchased the unlock — in your personal Google account (such as your Google Drive).

This backup is created and stored by Android, in your own personal Google account. It is not sent to the developer, and the developer has no access to it.

A few things to know about device backups:

  • Its purpose is to let you restore your data if you reinstall the app or set up a new device.
  • It is provided and controlled by Android. Your backed-up data is handled in accordance with Google's privacy policy.
  • No separate account or sign-in is required within Wellquill — the backup uses the Google account already configured on your device.
  • You can disable it at any time in Settings → Google → Backup (or Settings → System → Backup), plus per-app backup controls where available.

Data Security

Your data is stored locally on your device and is protected by your device's built-in security measures, including lock-screen protection and device encryption.

The app does not transmit your data over any network, other than the optional openFDA lookup described above (which sends no personal or health data). If you have device backup enabled, the transfer and encryption of your backup to your Google account is handled by Android and Google in accordance with their security practices.

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data remains on your device until you choose to remove it. You can delete your data at any time by:

  • Deleting individual medications, schedules, history entries, forms or submissions within the app
  • Clearing app data through your device's system settings
  • Uninstalling the app, which permanently removes all data stored on your device
  • Disabling device backup and/or deleting the app's backup from your Google account

Please note: if you have device backup enabled, a copy of your data may remain in your personal Google account after you uninstall the app, until it is removed under Google's retention rules or deleted manually through your Google account settings.

App Permissions

Wellquill requests the following Android permissions. None are used to collect or transmit your personal or health data:

  • Notifications — to show your medication reminders
  • Exact alarms — to fire reminders at the precise scheduled time, even in low-power mode
  • Run at startup — to reschedule your reminders after your device restarts
  • Camera — to scan a medication barcode. Barcode images are processed on your device and are never stored or uploaded.
  • Ignore battery optimisations (optional) — so the system does not delay or drop your reminders

Device backup (see Device Backups above) does not require an app permission; it is a feature of Android and is controlled in your system settings.

A Note on Health Information

Wellquill lets you record health-related information, such as your medications and entries in forms you build (for example a blood-pressure or migraine log). Wellquill simply records and displays what you enter. It stays on your device under the terms above. Wellquill is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice.

Children's Privacy

Wellquill is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not collect personal information from any user. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us — though no mechanism exists within the app to do so.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of Wellquill after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
